We, the Faculty of Science Sustainability Committee, fully support the Green Labs initiative which aims to raise awareness of the collective resource footprint of research laboratories and to reduce the consumption of energy and production of wastes in our laboratories.

Meine Forschungsgruppe "Informatik und Nachhaltigkeit" wird sich verstärkt auf Projekte konzentrieren, die sich mit der Rolle von Wissen und Zugang zu Information in der Bewältigung globaler Probleme der Ernährung auseinandersetzen. Dies geschieht in Zusammenarbeit mit dem neu gegründeten Zurich Knowledge Center for Sustainable Development (ZKSD).
I will deepen the research on energy consumption of mobile apps and in performance testing of software. The key challenge is to analyze both source code structures and testing environments that are very resource intensive and can be improved to save energy. Prediction models of run-time resource consumption or statistical models for benchmarking of micro-service software architectures are two lines of research.
Es ist mein erklärtes Ziel, dass meine Forschung - die Messung der globalen Biodiversität mittels Drohnen, Flugzeugen und Satelliten - dazu führt, den CO2 Footprint zur Erfassung der Biodiversität zu vermindern. Oder anders gefragt: kann meine eigene, sehr CO2 intensive Forschung (wir befliegen Biodiversitätsexperimente wobei z.T. täglich bis zu 1 Tonne Kerosin verbrannt wird) helfen, dass die Benefits mittelfristig überwiegen. Die Antwort muss 'ja' sein und somit auch meine Verpflichtung
My research focuses on sustainability in the energy sector and the chemical industry, and this will continue.
