Data collection on student travels – challenges and good practices
The Sustainability Hub prepared a report on challenges, good practices and potential fields of action with regard to sustainable student travels – with a focus on data collection and calculation of GHG emissions. The report is based on interviews with experts from eight European universities.
GHG emissions and duration of travels with different transport modes
The Sustainability Hub analysed student mobility patterns in cooperation with Global Student Experience. The analysis primarily intends to provide information about which routes are frequently used across Europe and which ways of transport students have used so far. The Factsheet and Connectivity Report summarize these results.

Background
Until May 2026, UZH was a partner organization in the EU-funded project Sustainable Erasmus+ Travel (SET). This project aimed to motivate students to use sustainable mobility for their exchange abroad and to promote supporting frameworks for this. The Sustainability Hub and Global Student Experience were working on this project. In addition to UZH, Charles University in Prague, the University of Porto, the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) and the European University Foundation (EUF) were involved in the project. Erasmus by train and Generation Climate Europe were also associated.
